Lemonade Day: A project, a day, a lesson, giving back

By Andrea Bossenmeyer

Just recently I was flying back from the National Principals conference and read an outstanding feature on a project called Lemonade Day.

Lemonade Day is May 2nd, annually. Lemonade Day introduces kids to entrepreneurship! This city-wide event encourages kids to start a lemonade stand and sell their lemonade to the entire community. Schools, community groups and businesses get involved to make this all happen. Sounds fun why not bring it to your school?!

“I learned three things from Lemonade Day: 1) How to start a lemonade business, 2) how to be successful and 3) how to give back to the community.” - Gerra Gistland, 9-year-old entrepreneur who gave 12 percent of her profits to her favorite charity.

I think giving back and volunteering is the most important thing we can teach our children. I think this sounds like an excellent idea!
